Use Shortcodes To Display Events from The Events Calendar

The Events Shortcode plugin allows you to display events anywhere on your WordPress site.You can easily insert a shortcode in the Classic Editor, Block (Gutenberg) Editor, or Elementor Page Builder.

This guide explains how to insert and customize shortcodes in each editor:

Insert Shortcode in Classic Editor

  • Open your page/post in Classic Editor.
  • Click on the Events Shortcodes button in the toolbar (as shown in the editor screenshot).

  • A pop-up panel will appear. Here you can:

  • Select Template: Select your layout (List, Grid, etc.)
  • Template Style: Choose a visual style variation for your selected template layout.
  • Date Formats: Set how the event date should appear. You can use the default or choose a custom date format.
  • Limit the Events: Define how many events to display in the shortcode output (e.g., 5, 10, or 20).
  • Events Order: Choose the order in which events are displayed ASC (ascending) or DESC (descending).
  • Hide Venue: Select “Yes” to hide the venue information from the event display or “No” to show it.
  • Show Events: Choose which events to display from the available options.
  • Events Time (Past/Future Events): Decide whether to show upcoming events, past events, or both.

  • Show Only Featured Events: Select “Yes” to display only featured events or “No” to include all events.
  • Show Description: Choose whether to display event descriptions in the event list.
  • Select Tags: Filter events by specific tags. Only events with the selected tags will appear.
  • Select Venue: Display events from a particular venue by selecting it from the list.
  • Select Organizer: Show events organized by a specific organizer.
  • Enable Social Share Buttons: Choose whether to show social sharing buttons for each event.
  • Show Events Between Date Range: Display events that fall within a selected date range by specifying start and end dates.
  • Show Filterbar: Enable or disable the filter bar, allowing users to filter events on the front end.
  • Once you finish, click the Insert Shortcode button. The shortcode will be added directly into the editor.
  • Now, you can publish the page and preview it.

Add Shortcode in Block Editor

  • Open your page/post in the Gutenberg editor.
  • Click on the “+” Add Block button and search for Events Shortcodes.

  • Add the events shortcode block to your page.

  • A settings panel will appear on the right-hand side. Here, you can:
    • Choose event layout (grid, list, slider, etc.) along with styles.
    • Select the event date format and limit the number of events.
    • Apply filters like categories, venues, or tags.
    • Choose to show or hide event venue, description, and social share buttons.
  • After being satisfied with the changes, you can publish your page and preview it.

Add Shortcode in Elementor

  • Edit your page with Elementor Page Builder.
  • From the widgets section, drag the Events Calendar Shortcode and Templates widget into your page.

  • Now, you can customize the appearance of your events using different settings.

  • Click Update or Publish to save your changes and preview it.
